Inventory, freight, and cargo grids

Star Citizen Cargo and Inventory Guide

New players often confuse personal inventory, ship stowage, and cargo grids. Treat them as separate systems so your supplies and mission boxes do not vanish into confusion.

What Goes Where

Mission boxes

Use interaction prompts and place boxes inside the ship where they will not fall out. For cargo missions, follow the contract pickup and drop-off flow.

Freight cargo

Use the freight elevator console, bring cargo up, move it with a tractor beam, and snap boxes to the ship cargo grid when possible.

Open cargo grids

Ships with external or open grids can carry freight, but they are not the same thing as a backpack. Secure boxes properly before leaving.

Tractor beams

A multitool tractor attachment is fine for small boxes. Larger hauling jobs are much easier with a dedicated cargo mover.

Beginner rule

If losing it would ruin the session, keep it on your character or leave extras at the station until you know your ship storage works.

Quick Cargo Flow

Accept the hauling contract

Open mobiGlas, go to Contracts, then choose a verified hauling job you can actually carry.

Use the freight elevator

At pickup, use the console to bring the contract cargo up from storage.

Tractor boxes onto the cargo grid

Place boxes carefully so they snap or sit securely before departure.

Deliver through the destination elevator

Unload the boxes, send the elevator down, and confirm contract completion.

Before your first cargo run

Create the account with the referral attached, then use the shopping checklist before launching.
